How to Book Event Tickets Online

World Events Diary would love, just love, to be the golden umbrella which would shield you from the world’s postal systems and dodgy “ticket” operators. Unfortunately, we can’t! However, hopefully by following the tips below you will be less open to problems when you book event tickets and more…

1) It may sound obvious, but… make sure you book event tickets in advance. And not three days before your flight advanced, but weeks, months… whatever it takes to give the event tickets every opportunity to arrive at your door before you leave.

2) If at all possible, book them over the phone. Ask about additional charges incrued by foreign shipments and, more importantly, what to do if your tickets don’t arrive. Take booking numbers, the name of the person you spoke to, the time, reference numbers, seat numbers, star signs, favourite pets… anything to help you should problems occur. Request an email confirmation too.

3) Clearly, the above only helps if the operator speaks your language… If not, try the official website.

4) There should be no reason to necessarily think ill of local ticketing agencies, but generally you should expect a large international ticketing agency, like Ticketmaster to be more used to sending tickets abroad. The more they do, the better they will be… (in theory, anyway).

5) Try to receive them registered post.

6) If you have a contact in the country of arrival, ask for the tickets to be sent there - the hotel for example. This would be best if time is short.

7) Consult a good guide book or website with regard to how to book event tickets locally. For example, Italian football match tickets can be purchased at some tobacconists and not on the gate as one would expect.

Full Moon Parties in Thailand

For those looking for the ultimate all night rave, the Full Moon Party is one of the world's most popular destinations. Thailand's Ko Pha Ngan island is, every month, swamped by thousands of tourists- or 'techno tourists' as they have been dubbed- filling the beaches of Hat Rin resort and dancing hard for one night only to trance, techno, house and drum and bass- anything, in fact, that is loud, thumping and will get them through the night.

Oyster season hits Galway at the end of September... so why not celebrate it?
