Inter Rail, Eurail, Inter Rail Europe, Eurail tickets

Please use our specialist search facility below to find fantastic deals on Euro rail.

Good idea this. In fact, Inter Rail and Eurail are great things, period. Consider this: It costs close to £100 for a peak time standard open single train ticket from London to Leeds if bought on the day of travel. (Bargain, clearly.) Yet for 600 euros you can travel through, up, down, left, right, sideways and backwards (if you want) 30 European destinations, all day, some of the day, or everyday for one month continually if you like.

This might be slightly mad - travelling every day and not really seeing anything - but this just demonstrates what good value InterRail passes can be. And the 600 euro quote is the grand deluxe ticket which you may not even need. The fewer days you need travel over the period of a month, the less you pay. Nice!

Travel the scenic way

If you prefer your travelling shots shorter and in a single country, you can also purchase one country passes - up to 300 euros for 8 days of travel over a month.

Basically, the “system” works like this: if you don’t think you will be travelling for 30 days out of 30, you can buy passes for 22 continuous days too. Further down the scale, if you think you will travel on only 10 days out of a total period of 22 days, or 5 days travelling over 10 days, there are tickets for this too.

The “day” system means you can travel any time between midnight and midnight and this counts as a day’s travelling- go as far, or as short a distance as you want. You have 10 out of 22 days of these, or 5 out of 10. You’d be amazed at how far you can go too… and how much a day or two in a city holds you back from the rails.

See more of Europe

Travelling this way means you see more of Europe than you could possibly do otherwise. You’re not gazing at a map or driving down endless roads; and you’re not in the clouds either. Tackling Europe via its superbly well integrated rail network is a joy. The trains are excellent and the services good.

For overnight trains, Inter City services and some scenic routes, supplements will be charged in addition. Unfortunately, this rules out being James Bond in the overnight Orient Express from Paris through Vienna in the 1st class apartment, but, oh well…

The InterRail pass is only valid for European citizens, and you cannot use the one country pass in your own country (think how much you’d save between Leeds and London that way!).

For visitors from outside Europe, try the Eurail pass- broadly similar, if slightly more expensive, and with 5 countries fewer than the Inter Rail scheme. Either way, though, what a choice!
